Man shot during alleged road rage incident

A man was shot off of the Van Wyck Expressway after a possible road rage incident in Queens Friday night, authorities said.

Cops say the 32-year-old was driving on a service road off of the Van Wyck when a man in a white Jeep Grand Cherokee began to chase after him at 8:30 p.m.

When the victim pulled over at the Van Wyck Service Road and 94th Street to confront the driver of the Grand Cherokee, cops say the suspect got out of his Jeep and shot through the victim’s car window, striking him once in the torso, according to police.

Authorities say the victim was taken to Jamaica Hospital in serious condition, but with non-life threatening injuries.

“Right now it appears to be a case of serious road rage,” a police source said of the shooting. “But we’re still determining whether or not the suspect knew the victim prior to Friday nights shooting.”

Cops eventually found the Jeep abandoned on 97th Avenue and 134th Street shortly after the shooting.

Police say no arrests have been made, and cops have not released a description of the suspect as of Saturday morning.
