City Council to Vote on Adding Civil Penalties to Hit-and-Run Cases

The City Council’s transportation committee passed a bill that would add civil penalties to the list of punishments for hit-and-run drivers.

The fines could be as high as $ 10,000 dollars when the incidents result in death.

The measure was introduced by City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer in honor of three people killed by hit-and-run drivers in his district.

The committee hopes the penalties will deter drivers from leaving the scene of an accident.

The bill will now be voted on by the full City Council.
