City Taking Bids For Pay-By-Phone System For Metered Parking Spots

Mayor Michael Bloomberg wants drivers to be able to pay for parking with their cellphones at every meter in the city.

The mayor and the Department of Transportation announced that they’re taking bids from companies who think they can put a pay-by-phone system in place in all of the city’s 14,000 metered parking spots.

The announcement follows a successful test run of the pay-by-phone system on Arthur Avenue in the Bronx.

Drivers will use a smartphone app to pay the meter and can add additional time without going back to the car.
