A New York federal judge ruled Friday that the controversial federal phone-tracking program is legal.
U.S. District Judge William Pauley said the program is “the government’s counter punch to Al-Qaida’s terror network.”
He also made mention of the September 11th attacks, saying the data tracking could have helped investigators prior to the tragedy.
Pauley says the data collection program was part of the government’s adjustment to confronting a new enemy.
The American Civil Liberties Union, which brought the suit, did not have an immediate comment on its dismissal.
