The medical clinic in the Dominican Republic where a young Bronx mom lost her life is doing business as usual, even as her family prepares to file a lawsuit against the doctor who treated her.
A nurse who answered the phone at Vista del Jardin medical clinic Tuesday said she couldn’t answer any questions about Beverly Brignoni.
“The doctor hasn’t arrived yet, and I can’t speak about this,” the nurse told a Daily News reporter in Spanish.
Brignoni, 29, traveled from the Bronx to Santo Domingo Feb. 19 to have a routine tummy tuck.
She died on the operating table the next day — the victim of a pulmonary embolism, the clinic told her family.
The doctor who performed the surgery, Dr. Guillermo Lorenzo, didn’t return calls for comment.
“I’d really like to speak to him, I have a lot of questions to ask,” said Bernadette Lamboy, godmother to Brignoni.
She last spoke to the doctor on Feb. 20 at 3:30 p.m., when he called from Santo Domingo to say that Brignoni was dead.
The clinic released a short statement last week that said it was continuing to treat its clients with the highest standards of quality.
