The Manhattan District Attorney and the New York City Police Department on Thursday announced the bust of a gun trafficking ring they say was selling illegal weapons in two boroughs.
As the result of an undercover investigation, Javon Burgess, 36, and Paul Lee, 24, are in custody and charged with illegally selling dozens of firearms, including assault rifles and high capacity magazines.
The guns were obtained in South Carolina and sold in Manhattan and the Bronx, many in broad daylight, and some even near the entrance to the Bronx Zoo.
“As we’ve seen in case after case, these traffickers move guns across state lines as referenced by the commissioner. Burgess for example is accused of obtaining his guns in South Carolina. And as we’ve seen in so many cases, traffickers also move guns between our city’s boroughs,” said Police Commissioner William Bratton.
Both suspects face multiple felony charges of criminal sale of a weapon.
More than 40 guns were seized in the arrests.
