The brother of former Yankees manager Joe Torre has died.
Frank Torre played first base for the Milwaukee Braves and Philadelphia Phillies in the 1950s and ’60s.
The Brooklyn native more recently worked with the Baseball Assistance Team, a charity that supports people connected to Major League Baseball.
Torre had a heart transplant in 1996, the day before his brother, Joe, led the Yankees to a World Series victory. He also had a kidney transplant in 2007.
In a statement, MLB Commissioner Bud Selig said, in part, “I am deeply saddened by the loss of Frank Torre, a close friend for nearly 60 years and a man who marked the start of a great baseball family.”
Frank Torre was 82 years old.
