Fresh Direct Reaches Living Wage Deal with Workers

Online Grocer Fresh Direct has reached a deal with its unionized workers.

The deal gives workers a 20 percent pay increase over the next three years and a monthly savings of up to $ 450 in health care costs.

Officials had put pressure on Fresh Direct to pay a living wage, especially since it’s in line to get millions in tax breaks from the city.

The new deal does not apply to it’s warehouse staff, which is not unionized.

A company spokesperson says those workers make over $ 13 an hour.

Recently, Fresh Direct has also been targeted by protesters who are looking to block its move to the Bronx in 2016.
