The man who confessed to killing 6-year-old Etan Patz in 1979 was back in court Monday.
A judge will decide whether a videotaped confession by Pedro Hernandez should be allowed as evidence in his murder trial.
The hearing is expected to take several weeks.
A portion of the tape was played in which Hernandez was heard describing about how he wanted to stop choking Patz, but just could not do it.
Hernandez was arrested in May 2012 after police got a tip that he may be the boy’s killer.
He was questioned at a police station near his New Jersey home for about seven hours before being advised of his Miranda rights.
He was then recorded admitting that he lured Patz into the store where he worked, killed the boy, and threw his body out with the trash.
Patz vanished in May 1979 and his body has never been found.
Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in the case.
