Construction Worker Dies After Falling from Scaffolding in Midtown

A construction worker has died after falling from scaffolding in Manhattan.

It happened at around 2:15 p.m. Wednesday outside the Dream Hotel near 55th Street between Seventh Avenue and Broadway.

The FDNY said the man was found dead at the scene.

Witnesses said the victim may have fallen from the eighth floor down to the scaffolding above the first floor.

“We work across and we always see the guys up there working without harnesses, so it’s kind of a scary thing. We’re always looking like, yikes. So we weren’t that surprised,” said one person.

“It’s really shocking to see someone laying up there all on his own,” said another. “It’s a terrible thing to happen to somebody.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration and the Department of Buildings are investigating.

The hotel remained open for business.
