Sources: Rafael Pineiro, NYPD’s Highest Ranking Hispanic Official, Asked to Step Down

NY1 has learned that the NYPD’s highest ranking Hispanic official is leaving his post at the end of next month.

Sources say First Deputy Commissioner Rafael Pineiro is being asked to step down. No reason has been given.

A member of NYPD for over four decades, Pineiro graduated at the top of his recruit class in 1970. He also graduated from Brooklyn Law School.

Pineiro rose to the rank of Chief of Personnel before becoming First Deputy Commissioner.

Latino advocates had floated his name as a potential candidate for Commissioner when Mayor Bill de Blasio was looking to replace Ray Kelly.
