Four people are dead and as many as 60 people injured after a Metro-North train derailed in the Bronx early on Sunday, according the the FDNY.
The southbound train derailed at about 7:20 a.m. in the Spuyten Duyvil section of the Bronx.
The FDNY says five of the train’s seven cars derailed between the Riverdale and Spuyten Duyvil stations on the Metro-North’s Hudson line.
According to the FDNY, 11 people are suffering critical injuries, 6 are serious but not life-threatening and 46 have minor injuries. Victims were transported to St. Barnabus Hospital, Jacobi Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital and Montefiore Medical Center.
The MTA has suspended service on the Hudson line between Croton Harmon and Grand Central. The MTA’s website warns Hudson Line customers to expect “indefinite delays.”
Rescue workers have been dropping stretchers into the train.
The train originated in Poughkeepsie and was headed to Grand Central.
According to sources, Governor Andrew Cuomo is on his way to the scene.
