Man Killed By Police Following Alleged Robbery In Morris Heights


A 44-year-old man is dead after he allegedly robbed a man in the Bronx early on Thursday.


The shooting followed what police say was a robbery at gunpoint inside the vestibule of a Chase Bank on Burnside Avenue in Morris Heights. The Chase is located a short distance from where the shooting occurred.


The 24-year-old victim on his way to work when he was allegedly robbed by the 44-year-old man. His cell phone and money were taken in the robbery, but he managed to flag down police officers.


The officers chased the robber on foot and by car into the lobby of 1985 Davidson Avenue.


Following a struggle with the man, who was carrying a .380 caliber handgun, one officer shot him in the chest. It is unclear how many shots were fired.


The man was pronounced dead at St. Barnabus Hospital at 4:46 a.m.
