Things are bound to get ugly for the U.S. at the World Cup in Brazil, and it has nothing to do with playing in the Group of Death.
Nike unveiled the team’s away kit for this summer’s tournament, an unsightly red, white and blue combination that looks more like the French , Russian and Dutch flags than Old Glory.
European-inspired aesthetics aside, Yahoo’s Dirty Tackle blog offered the best criticism by comparing the outfit to an upside-down Bomb Pop frozen popsicle .
Nike had more patriotic motives for its design.

“The USA has a profound and passionate pride in their nation,” Martin Lotti, Global Creative Director for Nike Soccer, said on the company’s website . “We wanted to create a design that reflects this in a daring and colorful fashion to give them an even more imposing appearance.”
The Americans will look far less “imposing” during its home games, by donning a white collar polo jersey that can easily pass for a plain old golf shirt.
Questionable fashion will be the least of Team USA’s worries in Brazil, unfortunately. Jurgen Klinsmann and company have near-impossible task of trying to advance from Group G against Ghana, Portugal and Germany.
