The city’s Health Department is investigating three cases of meningitis that have developed in HIV-positive gay men.
Health officials say two of the cases were reported within the last three days, and all of them have been in Brooklyn and Queens.
They’re recommending meningitis vaccines for all men who regularly have intimate contact with other men.
The department also says men with HIV have an increased risk of contracting the disease.
Symptoms of meningitis include fever, chills, weakness, and muscle aches, and may also lead to headaches, stiff neck, and a rash.
Twenty-two people were infected during a similar outbreak in February 2013; seven of them died.
