Family of boy dragged by city bus suing

The family of a Staten Island boy who was seriously hurt when his leg was trapped in the doors of a city bus says in a lawsuit that the driver was negligent.

Tyreek Gomez was heading for school when he tried to board an S78 bus on Tompkins Avenue in December and the door slammed shut on his leg.

The trapped 10-year-old was dragged about 25 feet before he was able to free himself, according to a published report.

The driver “suddenly and without warning” slammed the doors on the child’s leg and was “reckless, careless and negligent,” according to a Staten Island Supreme Court lawsuit filed against the city and NYC Transit earlier this month by the boy’s mom, Tiresha Boyd.

The family is seeking unspecified damages. The city will review the claims. The authority declined comment.
