Chelsea Clinton Among Participants In Clinton Foundation’s ‘Day Of Action’ For Sandy Recovery

Chelsea Clinton was among the more than 2,500 volunteers who mobilized in Queens and Staten Island Saturday as The Clinton Foundation organized another “Day of Action” focused on Hurricane Sandy recovery efforts.

Last November, the nonprofit organized volunteers to help with relief efforts in the Rockaways, including food distribution and removing debris and trash from houses.

The Department of Parks and Recreation had to use their time over the last few months dealing with the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and not doing the normal maintenance they would have done.

The goal of the “Day of Action” was to work on some of that maintenance.

“Although the floodwaters have receded and most of the trees are blooming, there’s still cleanup work that needs to happen, and there’s still certain areas of just the ground that haven’t recovered,” Clinton said. “So we’re helping add mulch, we’re helping to replant, we’re helping to do some of the general maintenance, like repainting the bridge that you see behind us today that the Parks Service hasn’t been able to focus on while they continue to do the really hard cleaning up work in the aftermath of Sandy a year later.”
