Muslim convert in NYPD ax attack scoured Web for terror inspiration

The Muslim convert who hacked two cops with a hatchet obsessively scoured the Web for information on terror attacks in the month leading to his rampage — and watched a grisly video of the cleaver murder of a British soldier just two days before he exploded in violence, the NYPD said Wednesday.

Zale Thompson’s hundreds of sick searches also focused on the fellow Muslim convert who beheaded a woman inside an Oklahoma food-processing plant in September, a senior police official said.

An analysis of Thompson’s computer revealed that he started surfing black militant Web sites in 2011 but shifted his focus to al Qaeda and ISIS around March.

One terror-related site he visited featured a photo of an ax and a message urging readers to “get whatever weapon you can” for use in murderous attacks.

In recent online communications, Thompson wrote, “You can’t defeat America overseas,” chillingly adding: “Black people have to do it. You have to chop off the head of the beast,” the NYPD official said.

Thompson’s father also told cops that he kicked his son out of their Queens Village apartment three days before the hatchet attack because Thompson would lock himself in his room and stare at the Internet all day and night.

On Oct. 23, Thompson chopped rookie cop Kenneth Healey in the head and sliced the arm of cop Joseph Meeker before two other cops blew him away — and accidentally wounded an innocent bystander — on a busy Queens street.

Healey, a second-generation cop, was released from the hospital last week.
