Another New Jersey kid has sued her parents to make them pay for school — and she’s won.
The parents of 21-year-old Caitlyn Ricci have been ordered to pay $ 16,000 for her tuition at Temple University, even though she hasn’t lived with them for two years and doesn’t talk to them, according to NJ.com.
A judge cited a 1982 landmark case, in which the state Supreme Court ruled divorced parents are responsible for providing for their child’s education.
The parents say it’s unfair, since the Washington Township student has moved out of her mom’s home and in with her grandma, who funded her suit.
“Did I ever expect my daughter to sue me? No, of course not. It’s heartbreaking,” mom Maura McGarvey told Philadelphia’s 6ABC.com.
The case echoes that of Rachel Canning, who took her parents to court this year for tuition before later dropping the suit.
