Queens Man Who Stabbed Wife, Daughters to Death Gets 45 Years

The Queens man who stabbed his wife and two young daughters to death was sentenced to 45 years in prison Friday.

Miguel Mejia-Ramos pleaded guilty to manslaughter after killing his family in their Jamaica apartment in January.

His wife’s family members spoke in court through a translator, describing the pain of their loss.

Prosecutors said Mejia-Ramos had been out drinking the night he came home and stabbed his wife in a jealous rage over a Facebook photo.

Judge Kenneth Holder of the Queens Supreme Court said her family members agreed to a plea deal to avoid reliving the trauma in court.

He told Mejia-Ramos he deserved much worse than he got.

“Even the most hardened of criminals who walk in and out of the courtroom are shocked by what you did,” the judge said. “I truly believe that the person who invented the electric chair or the gas chamber must certainly have had you in mind when they designed it.”

Mejia-Ramos fled the state after his crime but was caught in Texas.

Authorities believe he was trying to get to Mexico.
