New Yorkers Salute Nation’s Vets Along Fifth Avenue

More than 20,000 people are marching up Fifth Avenue today for the city’s annual Veterans Day Parade.

This year’s theme is “Land of the Free/Home of the Brave,” an homage to Francis Scott Key on the 200th anniversary of him writing “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

Former police commissioner Ray Kelly will serve as Grand Marshal.

He’s a combat veteran of the Vietnam War and retired after 30 years of service with the Marines.

Kelly will be marching next to his wife, Veronica, a Coast Guard veteran.

And for the first time ever, military dogs will be featured in the parade.

They will be joined by their wartime counterparts.

The parade kicks off at 11:30 a.m.
